Daphne Hannaford was a beautiful and intelligent 9-year-old. She was an eager student, always ready to learn, especially about science and history. Daphne loved many things including horror movies (Chucky was her favorite), singing, animals, and playing sports. She was sarcastic and funny and loved to make people laugh. When she rode in the car with her mom, Daphne would always hold her hand.

In the summer of 2019, Daphne’s mom brought her to the eye doctor after noticing her right eye crossing inward. Daphne was misdiagnosed several times before an MRI that September revealed the true cause of her vision issues, DIPG, a rare and fast-growing form of brain cancer. By November, Daphne lost the ability to walk and soon after also lost the use of her arms. One thing DIPG could never steal was her spunky attitude and famous eye roll.

Daphne courageously battled for 11 months before she passed away peacefully with her family by her side in August 2020. Daphne’s family is holding onto the hope that the cure for DIPG will be found one day and no more children will have to die from this horrifying disease.
