Our Mighty Miles is an inquisitive 5-year-old who loves football (his dad is British), cooking with his grandma, snuggling with mom, playing with his corgi dog Murray, being in nature, and learning all there is to know about bugs. In the middle of January 2026, at 4 years old, Miles started drooling and had slight facial paralysis on his right side. This began while he also had a cold, but once the cold was over, he continued drooling, and a few days after that when we picked him up from preschool his teacher mentioned that he was walking a bit wobbly that day. We immediately called his pediatrician, and she recommended we go to the children's hospital ER right away. After a CT scan and MRI, the next day, on February 3, 2026, he was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). It was the worst day of our lives. He started radiation treatment not long after and although it was a harsh transition getting used to having a PICC line on his arm, getting sedated everyday for the radiation treatment (a feeling that was very scary for our then 4 year-old), he summoned his bravery every morning, went to treatment, and went about his day right after. He truly astonishes us, his family and his supportive community, with how strong and courageous he is. Despite setbacks and the progression of his tumor, he bounces back. His infectious laughter fills our hearts with all the joy and hope that we need to keep being strong for our boy. He is the light of our life, and we will continue fighting with and for him every day.
