Mary was 2.5 years old when she was diagnosed with a non-operable infiltrated brainstem tumor on November 14, 2024. At the time of diagnosis it was believed that Mary had a fatal DMG and CHOA neurosurgery denied biopsy. We obtained 3 second opinions and 3/3 favored biopsy. We chose Dr. Klimo with St. Jude and he took one look at Mary and said she did not have a DMG. He was right and Mary was diagnosed with a low grade Glioma with characteristics of pilocytic astrocytoma. A targetable mutation was not found on the first biopsy so we just had a second biopsy with Dr. Klimo in hopes of finding a target for treatment.
