At 8 weeks we knew something was wrong because my son started having seizures. An MRI confirmed our fears, there was a lesion in our baby’s brain. At that point we were not sure what it was, as it didn’t exactly resemble a traditional tumor. Our home hospital was not comfortable with preforming a biopsy. After weeks of waiting as him tumor grew larger, and seizures increased in quantity. We were finally able to get in touch with the most amazing neurosurgeon in Memphis. He was able not only to biopsy, but a partial resection followed with a frontal lobectomy stopping the seizures. God answer our prayers here, after seeing the quality of care in Memphis, we requested to continue our care there. Again, our prayers were answered. We had so many bumps along the way, separated from our family members for most of the 5 months stay.  With a newborn, that had to fight for his life, but we were exactly where we needed to be. Winston’s tumor didn’t have the mutation that we prayed for at the time. Requiring traditional chemo to treat it. 6 rounds, with more platelets, sleepless nights, loss of hair, nausea, tear, medication and so much more. One of my biggest fears/prayers for Wince was to not let cancer harden him, he was a baby just learning about people, kindness, hardship, love and joy. I prayed that he didn’t associate the shots, blood draws, nausea, medication with his nurse, doctor and so on and instead be saw the love they all had for him.  That’s one of the biggest prayers answered. Winston is now almost 17m and never went through traditional stranger danger. When we are out, he still assumes everyone is there for him willing to say hi to almost anyone and giving the best hugs to anyone that might need it.
