Jaxson was born just perfect in my eyes. He did have a few complications at birth. He was hospitalized at 1 week old due to him not feeding. He was diagnosed with PTEN and NF type 1 after doing testing. When he was 16 months old, he was hospitalized a few times and doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong. It wasn’t until the third time in the hospital that month that they found out he had tumors in his intestines and colon. That was one of the worst times in our life. We were told by a doctor if we didn’t bring him in, they didn't think he would have made it the next day. We made the decision to have him sent to a children hospital 3 hours away to which they had to care flight him and was set to have surgery the next day. They were able to successfully remove nine of those tumors. At this time, I was pregnant with our youngest child. After the surgery, we stayed there for about a week and we were able to go home. Then we were set up for more testing to which they found tumors on his optic nerves. At this point the doctor we had set up wasn’t very optimistic about it and didn’t want to do any treatment. She just said, "let’s just see how it goes". We didn’t feel that was necessary and we had a second opinion. That’s when we met the amazing doctor we have now. His team gave us more hope. Only thing the team wanted to do was wait for six months to do more scans because previous team didn’t send the full records or any imaging for them to base off of so they were starting from scratch. What we were able set up was a treatment plan in the middle of it. Our doctor found out that my son couldn’t have radiation due to one of his genetic disorders so he could just have only chemotherapy. He told us that if we did the radiation, it would’ve been worse and been more aggressive, and the tumors would’ve come back and he didn’t know if they would come back in other places. We have been in remission for almost 2 years. He is now in kindergarten, starting to thrive more, just an overall amazing little boy. If you didn’t know him, you would never have guessed what he’s been through. Everything that he’s gone through, he’s always happy and smiling.
