The Cure Starts Now's Tribute Funds

Edie Jackson's Tribute Page

Edie was a beautiful, happy-go-lucky little girl who bravely battled a highly aggressive and inoperable brain tumour known as DIPG. Prior to diagnosis, Edie loved dancing, singing, gymnastics, and running. She was super fit, uber funny, so sweet, and caring. She loved her dog, Coco, and enjoyed taking her on walks. Edie was enormously funny with a fabulous sense of humour. She was incredibly loving, gave the best cuddles, and had a passion for life.

Before Edie’s diagnosis, her parents noticed that one of her eyes was turning inward and that she was struggling with balance issues, prompting them to seek out medical help. Unfortunately, on 27 November 2019, Edie and her family received the devastating diagnosis that Edie had DIPG. They were told to go and make memories while they could and given no hope for any future with their precious Edie. Explaining Edie’s diagnosis and prognosis to her brother, Charlie, who was 9-years-old at the time, was one of the most difficult things her parents have ever had to do. As you can imagine, this kind of news brought her entire family to their knees and left them fearful for the future.

Edie’s family did their best to help her remain positive and hopeful throughout her battle. Instead of telling her she had DIPG, they explained that she had a naughty nibbler in her head that made her eye bad and, eventually, weakened her arm and leg. Following radiotherapy, the steroids Edie was put on completely changed her personality. She was not the same little girl; she was a new Edie. She was still super intelligent and funny but showed her family how strong she was despite DIPG. She was much quieter and lost the ability to many of the things she loved doing before her diagnosis, such as dancing, singing, drawing, and colouring. It was all taken away from her, but she was a strong and determined little lady with plenty of love to give who kept on fighting.

Edie battled valiantly for 14 months before passing away on January 26, 2021, at the young age of seven. She inspired so many people with her incredible strength and courage during her battle. She was a beautiful little warrior who spread so much love and joy every day and will be missed dearly.

Funding for pediatric brain cancer research is vital. Without funding and research for DIPG, there would be no hope for families in this horrific fight. No hope for a cure. In the United Kingdom, it is vastly different from the United States in terms of treatment options. There are no clinical trials available, so their only option is radiotherapy. Funding is the only way to change this.
