Brooklyn has a lot of spunk, she always has been a talker. We could go on a full conversation about animals, and topics she was interested in. Brooklyn's first word was not mommy and daddy, it was 'yellow'. It is still her favorite color. She has always been an outdoors child. We are fortunate that Central Florida gets a little cooler in the winter months in the early morning and evenings. (Meaning 40's to 50's). Brooklyn would wake up early in the morning to eat breakfast and want to go outside and play in the backyard. Sometimes she wouldn't even eat breakfast. She would wait patiently for Mommy to make her coffee so she could enjoy it while watching Brooklyn play in her little playground. Until the day before her diagnosis of DIPG, Brooklyn was walking up the slide portion of her Little Tikes slide, driving her parents crazy, worrying about her falling and getting hurt.
As parents, we always tried to make everything better for Brooklyn. Everything could feel better with kisses. But not this time. No kiss could take away what was growing in her brain. Brooklyn was diagnosed with DIPG on April 28th, 2023. She was two years old. The first sign we noticed was a 'lazy eye'. We are grateful that her eye doctor caught it quickly and sent us immediately to get an MRI. The words 'brain tumor', 'inoperable' and 'nine months' were words we could not wrap ourselves around. Our perfect world came crashing down. Now we have a war to fight for Brooklyn.
Brooklyn was accepted at St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, TN where she received 6 weeks of radiation treatment and a clinical trial she would be on for two years. She made it to 8 months to the day of diagnosis before she showed progression. Her journey is not over and this fight isn't either. Brooklyn still puts s a smile on our faces and makes us laugh every chance she gets. She has a love for all animals, especially giraffes. She still enjoys the outdoors. We are enjoying and making the best of every moment for her. Brooklyn still shows she is stronger than any of us and she still has fight left in her, we will continue to fight for her and for all children and families going through this journey. #BrooklynRoseStrong
