At the age of 7, Sarai Pierce was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare and debilitating type of brain cancer, after her parents noticed one of her eyes sometimes straying to the left. Before diagnosis, Sarai was an independent and creative child. She absolutely loved creating art, dancing and gymnastics. Her favorite food was her mom’s lasagna. Sarai was an incredibly loving child. She loved her entire family, especially her brother, Sekai, and sister, Saiya.
After diagnosis, Sarai gradually had to stop attending dance and gymnastics classes, and she was eventually pulled out of school when she started having difficulty using her right arm and both legs. Sarai never complained about her tumor, in fact, she named it Iris, like it was her friend. Sarai fought valiantly for 7 months before she gained angel status.
"Sarai’s spirit, the love she taught so many, her smile and her love are what keep our family going. They are a constant reminder to keep fighting and raising money to fund research to find the cure so others diagnosed with DIPG stand a chance." - The Pierce Family
