Sweet, active, handsome, playful and funny are just a few words that can be used to describe 6-year-old Evan Austin, but he is so much more than meets the eye. He loves to play baseball and soccer, he loves fishing with his grandfather, he loves Star Wars and Legos, and he loves his big sister, Avery, very much. Evan has a heart of gold and a spirit that won’t let anything hold him back. He is incredibly positive and lives life to the fullest by spreading joy to those around him.
Evan slowly started exhibiting symptoms, such as mood changes and sleep-talking, before quickly showing more severe symptoms of loss of balance and vomiting. Following the recommendation of Evan’s pediatrician, his parents brought him to the Maine Medical Center emergency room, where he was diagnosed with DIGP, a rare and fast-growing form of brain cancer that has no effective treatment.
Evan and his family run our Southern New Hampshire Chapter, and they are committed to seeking funding for research needed for Evan and kids like him.
